Why germany

That is the first question I am sure you want to know. There are several reasons which I will explain , but the biggest reason would be family. My wife was born and raised in Germany and all her family live there. She has her grandmother , her mother, and step father, her aunt and uncle and her cousins. All of which live in a village outside of Berlin. My family all live in Wichita , Kansas. I have two grown daughter from my prior marriage. The oldest is going to college, owns her own house, and is getting married in March. The other is also going to college and is living with her mother and boyfriend. My Father and mother and my twin sisters all live very busy lives, which makes it hard for them to find time to come visit us.I have met my wife's family in Germany and they accept me and love me as one of their own. They also adore my children, which is another reason we have decided to move. We want our kids to experience what it is like to have family around, on a daily basis and have the time to spend with them.
There are several other reasons that make Germany appealing to move to. For one when you work in Germany it is state law that your employer give you at least 6 weeks of vacation per year plus 11 paid holidays. Currently in America I get 3 weeks from my employer and 6 holidays and that is considered alot. My poor wife only gets four days vacation and four paid holidays. This makes going on a nice vacation nearly impossible.
Health care is another reason. We all know the mess health care is over here and the reform it is going through. People can go Bankrupt with a major illness in America not so in Germany. Health care over there is taken care of. A portion of everyone's pay goes towards the government health care and as a result all health care needs are taken care of.
Child raising is made easier as well. For every child you have the government give you a monthly check equal to about $250 American dollars, every month until they reach the age of 18. In addition to that if you have a child in Germany they will allow you to stay home the first three year of the child's life have the job saved for you and provide with 70% of your income during that time. Also all schooling is free in Germany through high school.
Language is really not a problem over there as anyone age 40 and above can speak English. Its is now a required language to learn from grade school on. Because of the global economy we live in there are several American companies that are located in Germany.
Housing, will not be a problem which leads to another of the big reasons for our move. My wife is a only child so she is in line to inherit both her grandmothers farm house in Beasdeau, but also her mothers and stepfather lakefront home in Berlin. Currently in America we are renting and paying $1800 a month for a house we will never own. I also own ( or should I say have a mortgage) on a house in Wichita which is currently being rented out which I will have to try and sell in the next year.  Even if we stayed in Texas and bought a house would we ever actually own it? In Germany we will have two houses that are fully paid for.
So those are some of the main reasons we have decided to move. Now I know every thing is not rosy over there and in future blogs I will discuss some of my reservations on moving and some of the things I will miss about the states. For us at this time we feel that Germany offers us the best future for our family.
